CPP President Hun Sen Calls for Continued Peace and Stability in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, October 18, 2024 — Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), presided over the closing ceremony of the party’s 2024 annual work review and future directions, attended by over 2,000 members, including senior party leaders, mass movement committees, and various affiliated organizations.

During the event on December 18, 2024, Hun Sen outlined key directives for the CPP's mass movement committees to ensure peace, stability, and progress in Cambodia. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the nation’s hard-earned achievements while striving for further development.

“We must continue to maintain peace and stability in Cambodia at all costs,” Hun Sen stated, highlighting the critical link between political stability and macroeconomic growth. He urged party members across all institutions to work collectively to preserve social stability and foster national development.

Key recommendations included enhancing the effectiveness of mass movement committees through training programs to strengthen the capacity of party officials at all levels. He also called for close monitoring of public sentiment, both online and at the grassroots level, to respond effectively to the concerns of citizens about the leadership of the government and the party.

Hun Sen encouraged campaigns to promote social solidarity, positive engagement, and stronger connections between the public and government institutions. He also stressed the importance of addressing the rapid evolution of digital technology, particularly managing misinformation and unethical online content.

Reforms in both the party and the state were another priority outlined by Hun Sen. He emphasized that state and party reforms must align to achieve meaningful progress. He reiterated the CPP’s commitment to implementing the political program and the government’s Pentagon Strategy, with a particular focus on resolving socio-economic challenges in the aftermath of COVID-19 to improve livelihoods and the national economy.

The CPP leader also urged greater attention to Cambodia’s informal economy, praising the recent introduction of a digital registration system designed to ease the process for informal workers. He further commended efforts to address land issues and ensure timely resolutions for affected citizens.

The assembly also underscored the importance of diplomatic relations, promoting exchanges with neighboring and friendly nations based on principles of peace, cooperation, and mutual respect.

The event began on December 17, 2024, with an opening ceremony chaired by Say Chhum, Vice President of the CPP and Chairman of the Standing Committee. The assembly reviewed the progress of the party’s work, structural organization, achievements, and challenges, while setting a unified direction for future efforts.

Hun Sen concluded by encouraging all levels of the CPP to remain vigilant, proactive, and committed to ensuring a prosperous and peaceful Cambodia.
